Funded by a MDeC Digital Comics grant, three passionate Malaysian cartoonists from Cedko.com begun their [e][p][i][c] journey six months ago and today, in celebration of Earth Day (cartoonist style!), Cedko presents you an inspiring story with a great Malaysian feel and a global message... A talented but struggling Malaysian cartoonist juggles between his freelance cartooning and part-time job but after three years of long hard struggle, his cartooning career is going nowhere. Discouraged by his lack of success and his parent's constant nagging �why don't you just get a real job?�, he begins to lose faith in himself. Feeling depressed after his latest rejection from a cartoon syndication, he goes to sleep... hoping that this is all just a very bad dream!

He falls into a very deep sleep and dreams of three Malaysian superheroes; Dimples (Form Five student), Boss (director of a bank; River Bank) & I (DJ and wedding singer); who call themselves d-impossibles!

When a special Police Task Force fails to solve the case of 8 Swedish tourists who disappeared while visiting the Idea Furniture Mall, d-impossibles are summoned (via their website!) to the Balai to solve the case. During a series of encounters with Aunt-B-Table (a dressing table that transforms into an octopus!), d-impossibles uncover the real threat to mankind... Global Warming!!!

Malaysian 24 Hour Comics Challenge 2006 Publication

Most comics you read are kind of like mostrecorded music you hear � the songs that are carefully mixed in astudio, with different professionals each brought in to do theirspecialty as the song is recorded again and again, processed carefullyto achieve the maximum feeling of perfection.

What you'll findin this book, however, are live recordings. When you take on theunlikely task of creating 24 pages of comics (normally months of work)in 24 straight hours, one doesn't have time for perfection. You can'tkeep reworking and rethinking, and you can't bring in other people tohelp get it done. You pour art and words out on to one page, and thenyou move on to the next.

If this method means that occasionallya word gets misspelled or a background is left up to the imagination,that is a small price to pay. What is gained is an energy andoccasional surprising grace that comes from working continuously.

Someof these comics created during Malaysia's first (and, thank goodness,not to be the last) 24 hour comics event are lovely (when first saw Sarah Joan's story,for example, I immediately wanted to collaborate with her), and all ofthem are filled with passion. If you're going to spend 24 straighthours doing work of your choose, you're going to choose something youcare about, whether it's superheroes or megacorporations; the nature ofhappiness or giant robots; swordplay or silliness.

Malaysian 24 Hour Comics Day 2007 is the day when 24 Hour Comics Day is celebrated in Malaysia;
in conjunction with the international 24 Hour Comics Day on 20 Oct 2007. At last year�s event, we had
a full-house of 20 cartoonists. We�re hoping to target 50 cartoonists (including the closet cartoonists and
hidden gems from the public!) this year in conjunction with, yes... Malaysia�s 50th Merdeka celebrations!
